Meet Andrea
Artist, Painter, Crafter, Creator
Orepuki, Southland provides me with the constant inspiration that motivates me to make artworks on a fairly regular (obsessive) basis. I believe beauty lies in simplicity. Gemstone beach, with the ever view, wind slapped cliffs, expansive skies and incandescent light. A simple stone on the beach, the imprints of bird prints on sand or weathered twine that sits, curled and nestled beside a delicate slither of seaweed.
I guess I’m best described as a mixed media artist. I play with watercolours, acrylics, pastels, inks and graphite. I like to layer with resin and varnish. I love fabrics, particularly vintage ones with a story to tell.

VISIT THE GALLERY
Little Red Caboose
Art Gallery
I own and operate a ‘pop up’ style art gallery, called the #littleredcabooseart gallery in Orepuki, Western Southland.
I have a repurposed shipping container that sits is a paddock, overlooking Taewaewae Bay. The vista is jaw dropping and often catches customers by surprise.
Beside it sits an authenic red train caboose. In here I make art and sip on coffee, generally on a Saturday, or by appointment.

Off Grid
Accommodation
Step off the grid and into a rustic, pet‑friendly tiny house coastal cabin on our 5‑acre farmlet opposite Gemstone Beach, Orepuki.
This simple, character-filled tiny house offers self‑catering, and back‑to‑basics facilities, making this an ideal retreat for guests who value nature, solitude, starry skies, and travelling with their pets over modern hotel comforts.
You’ll wake to rural views and sea air, with Gemstone Beach just across the road for beach walks, stone hunting, and dramatic Southland sunsets – and on clear nights you can enjoy dark skies, with the chance to witness the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis) dancing on the horizon.
Enjoy a complementary Little Red Caboose Art Gallery tour with the artist herself - Andrea Sexton.
